Throughout the course of my study I have complete various urban projects. The most recent being a Re-coding and master planning project in Logan. It is designed to be a successful sustainable urban scheme. The Master Plan and Re-design outcome resulted from a deep study into the economy, environment and culture of Logan. Supporting information was sourced from key urban designers and theorists. An example of the materials studied included Kevin Lynch's 'City Heart' and Nodes theories, Jane Jacobs "The death and life of Great Cities," and Cliff Moughtin's "Good Breast Bad Breast."
A wide range of additional factors were also studied in these project files. These included; local climate, transport, roadways + traffic, schools + educational institutions, locals shops and shopping centres, business districts, local town plan, QDC, NBCC, Australian Standards.
The most recent design completed is a cinema + studio complex in Surfers Paradise, Gold Coast. The brief asked for an innovative and interesting outcome that would both engage with the local community and attract tourists. As the slides show, the overall design aimed to debunk the existing commercial development trend. It's concept was derived from the natural dunal landscape and vegetation. Bamboo was a prominent material used throughout as statement against the existing concrete structures surrounding it.
